The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by SARS-CoV-2, continues to pose a major threat to global health. Infected individuals are at increased risk of incident cardiovascular disease including dysrhythmias, ischemic and non-ischemic heart disease, pericarditis, myocarditis, heart failure, and thromboembolic disease. The dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 cardiac pathogenesis, how it reaches the heart, and how cardiovascular diseases are triggered remain poorly understood. The molecular mechanisms underlying the long-term continuation of symptoms are unclear. Hence, to investigate cardiovascular pathogenic phenotypes exertion in the absence of the virus, the epigenetic reprogramming of cell populations of the heart environment needs to be analyzed.
