The project aims to establish a Genomics Infrastructure for Personalized Medicine using a nationwide network model. The initiative will provide the Ministry of Health and the National Health Service (SSN) with the most advanced technologies for genomic data acquisition and processing. It involves leveraging all necessary expertise and a core set of patient biological collections, phenotypically and clinically characterized, housed in participating institutions, and being studied in funded projects. By synergistically sharing this existing expertise, the project will create a network capable of increasing the power of molecular genetic investigations. The ultimate goal is to use genetic data to define the molecular basis of multifactorial neurodegenerative and cardiac diseases, identifying prognostic and diagnostic markers as well as potential therapeutic approaches.
