The project aims to evaluate differences in terms of SARS-CoV-2 coinfection and the main respiratory viruses at the adenoid level and specific respiratory microbiota patterns (using metagenomics), between children undergoing adenoidectomy for chronic or recurrent infections of the nasopharyngeal-oto-tubal region (i.e., chronic adenoiditis and/or recurrent acute otitis media and/or persistent effusion-type otitis media) compared to controls undergoing adenoidectomy for adenoid hypertrophy and/or obstructive sleep apnea in the absence of chronic/recurrent infections. It also aims to evaluate the possible modulating effect of microbiota on the presence of the main respiratory viruses within the adenoid tissue and on their prevalence
