Study of the inverse relationship in occurrence between neurodegenerative diseases and cancer: investigation of the effect of differences in the distribution of modifiable risk factors and genetic variants in patients affected by Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and/or cancer. The project aims to identify genetic variants associated with Alzheimer’s disease and different types of cancer that may underlie the inverse relationship in occurrence between the two diseases. The study analyses large datasets (DbGAP, UK Biobank) to identify genetic patterns associated with the lower-than-expected co-occurrence of the two diseases, by means of Genome Wide Association Study (GWAS) and ML methods.
