Dr. Elda Perlino, degree in Biological Sciences since 1981, specializing in General Pathology, CNR researcher since 1983, currently Senior Researcher at the CNR ITB-Bari. From 2002 to 2006,was chief of the Scientific Thematic Section "cellular homeostasis and pathophysiology" of the 'Institute of Biomembranes and Bioenergetics (IBBE) - CNR, Bari. Since 2002 she is included in the register of experts the Ministry of Education and since 2005 in the register of qualified experts of the CNR for the project management activities. In the period 2005-2011 she was in the Scientific Technical Committee Consortium CARSO the for the Apulia Region and Independent Expert for the evaluation of projects by ARTI-Puglia. Dr Perlino was Coordinator of national and international research projects, courses, and contributed to organize national and international conferences. She is currently tutors for the training of graduate students, trainees and PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of the University of Bari, Ph.D. in Biotechnology applied to Transplants of Organs and Tissues, for the Department of Emergency and Transplantation of Organs (DETO) of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, University of Bari and training and education of fellows for the CNR. Dr Perlino was tutor for the PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of the University of Bari and Calabria, the consortium "CARSO," the School of Specialization in Oncology, Faculty of Medicine and the School of Specialisation in Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Bari.
Interest areas
The research of Dr. Perlino, although its always due to issues of basic research, is strongly oriented toward the biomedical sector with huge potential for development of technologies. Dr Perlino research activity is focused on the study of the molecular mechanisms that regulate the expression of genes involved in the control of cell proliferation, transformation and tumor progression and interactions in the network of inter-and intra-cellular proliferative disorders with a focus on hormone -regulated carcinoma. To this end, Dr. Perlino relies on the use of advanced technologies in molecular and cellular biology, developing a model of in vivo and in vitro represented by human tissues and cell lines of normal and cancerous prostate, and endometrium that allow study the molecular mechanisms of transformation and tumor progression. This research, as well as enabling the understanding of basic mechanisms and possible new applications, contains itself the potential for an immediate transfer of technology experimental methods to analytical laboratories, science parks and technology districts in the identification of therapeutic targets, protocols, diagnostic and / or prognostic for cancer. Numerous collaborations established by Dr. Perlino with clinical groups belonging to Universities and research institutions Italian and foreign ensure to research additional expertise in the medical field necessary for a multidisciplinary approach and systematic study of the complex processes of biomedicine, ensuring the success.
